Two acclaimed artists showcase photography, digital art, and abstract painting in The Perez Art District—meet them at tomorrow’s art walk and Desert Open Studios
In the latest episode of “The Art of Cathedral City,” CCTV Host Conrad Angel Corral explores the studios of two celebrated artists whose work exemplifies the creative diversity thriving in The Perez Art District: Terry Hastings and Anne Bedrick.
Art enthusiasts can meet both artists in person at tomorrow’s monthly art walk, Friday, January 23rd, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. The timing also coincides with Desert Open Studios, the most anticipated art event of the season, when more than 150 artists across the Coachella Valley open their studios to the public January 23-25.
Terry Hastings: Photography, Digital Art, and Desert Light
Working from 3 Seasons Gallery in Studio I-16, Terry Hastings is an internationally represented multidisciplinary artist whose work spans digital collage, minimal abstraction, and photography that transforms realism into quiet myth. His exhibitions and sales have reached Tel Aviv’s Pan Homo Gallery and Art Statements Hong Kong.
With a degree in theatre that informs his visual storytelling, Hastings relocated to Palm Springs in 2009, where the desert’s stark light, cinematic skies, and gleaming poolscapes became both backdrop and muse. His photographic journey began in 2002 and evolved into a practice where even realism is staged—every image a negotiation between presence, performance, and desire.
Hastings’ work unfolds in thematic series, most notably “The Four Elements” and “Photocollage,” each exploring transformation, perspective, and the choreography of light. His award-winning “Water” series draws comparisons to David Hockney, capturing bodies in motion as water slices, dices, and repeats forms when time is frozen. His digital compositions are modular, mythic, and emotionally precise—minimalism as his method of clarity.
His impressive exhibition history includes the Palm Springs Art Museum Artists Council Exhibition, San Diego Art Institute’s Baja Biennial, Brownsville Museum of Fine Art International Biennial, and Riverside Art Museum. He received multiple awards from the Cathedral City Public Arts Commission Quarterly Show, including Honorable Mention and Crowd Favorite Awards.
Anne Bedrick: Abstract Paintings That Speak Like Jazz
At Studio H-27, Anne Bedrick creates complex abstract compositions that are often compared to jazz music, evoking different emotional responses from viewers each time they encounter them. Transplanting herself from New York to Palm Springs in 2019, Bedrick immediately immersed herself in the vibrant local art scene.
A self-taught painter, Bedrick creates large-scale works full of color that draw viewers in and demand attention. As you explore the rich and varied surfaces, the paintings invite you to feel the depth of your own experiences—at once a respite from life and a challenge to it. In addition to her paintings, Bedrick also creates figurative cement sculptures—visitors to Desert Open Studios can see her newest piece, “Look, I’m Gonna Eat It,” currently in progress.
Beyond her studio practice, Bedrick is one of four founders of the Desert Open Studios tour, organizing more than 150 artists to open their studios to the public across the Coachella Valley. She also organized the First Friday Art Walk, runs critique groups, and teaches painting workshops.
In 2020, Anne Bedrick Fine Art was voted one of three best galleries in the Coachella Valley by Palm Springs Life editors and readers. Her work has been exhibited at venues across the country and is collected internationally. She is also the author of the interactive eBook “Choice Without Chaos.”
Where Art Lives
Both artists maintain working studios in The Perez Art District, where visitors can see them creating, learn about their processes, and purchase art directly. Tomorrow, Friday, January 23rd, marks the district’s 4th Friday Art Walk from 4:00 to 7:00 PM—the perfect opportunity to meet Terry and Anne, see their latest work, and explore the studios of over 50 artists.
