A British-born storyteller of memory and a Hollywood veteran turned desert painter share their creative worlds — and Emeline opens her studio for tomorrow’s art walk
In the latest episode of “The Art of Cathedral City,” CCTV Host Conrad Angel Corral explores the creative worlds of two distinctive Cathedral City artists: Emeline, whose studio is in The Perez Art District, and Eugene Poe, whose vibrant desert-inspired paintings fill a private home gallery just minutes away.
Art enthusiasts can meet Emeline in person at tomorrow’s monthly art walk, Friday, April 24th, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
Emeline: Art That Preserves Memories
British-born artist and surface print designer Emeline — who recently filed a DBA to officially adopt the mononym for her art practice — creates text-based artwork designed to preserve memories and make people feel happy. Using her own handmade letters, shapes, and colors, she builds one-of-a-kind pieces inspired by childhood stories and the meaningful words we carry with us. Visitors to Studio H27 in The Perez Art District can see her latest work, including pieces from Mackenzie’s Hearts, a deeply personal ongoing project honoring her niece.
A graduate of art school in Eastbourne, East Sussex, with a degree in Fashion Design, Emeline began her creative career as a Technical Designer in London for Ted Baker before moving to California in 2005. Her early art career took off through a series of twenty pop-up shows across London — in small galleries, bars, restaurants, and even a major Piccadilly Circus bookshop — and she’s been selling her work for more than two decades.
Her path has included winning two print competitions with Printed Village, earning the Threadless Accelerator Award, and appearing on CNBC’s The Profit with Marcus Lemonis. Her prints have been licensed onto fashion, shoes, tech products, home goods, and even Italian wallpaper — and her work has been carried at retailers including Target, Nordstrom, and Bed Bath & Beyond. Hilary Duff personally selected one of Emeline’s phone case designs for her Casetify holiday collection. Locally, Emeline has exhibited at Janssen Art Space, the Palm Springs Art Museum, and through Palm Springs Public Arts projects.
Eugene Poe: Desert Sunsets and a Hollywood Second Act
Known to friends and colleagues simply as “Poe,” Eugene Poe brings nearly fifty years of Hollywood creative life to his painting practice in Cathedral City, where he works and welcomes collectors to a private home gallery by appointment. Born and raised in rural Virginia and a Fine Arts graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, Poe’s post-college plans to backpack through Europe for two months turned into a two-year adventure that included acting as an American hippie in Federico Fellini’s Roma and working as a dresser for English actor Corin Redgrave at London’s Wyndham Theatre.
Back in the United States, Poe headed for Hollywood and spent decades working across stage, film, television, print, and commercial advertising. His stage credits include The Dirtiest Show in Town and Boys in the Band. On screen, he appeared in Star Trek: The Motion Picture, served as Sir Anthony Hopkins’s stand-in on Thor, and took background-artist turns on Mash, The Love Boat, Days of Our Lives, The Young and the Restless, and The Ellen Show — where he played the airline counter agent in one of that show’s most famous episodes.
In 2013, Poe retired from show business and relocated to Cathedral City with his husband, Michael. The move to the Coachella Valley — and the beauty of desert sunsets, southwest landscapes, and the region’s distinctive light — reinvigorated his creativity and launched his second act as a visual artist. His vibrant paintings of flowers, trees, desert scenes, sunsets, and figurative subjects now hang in homes and offices from Los Angeles and Joshua Tree to South Florida, South Texas, and across the Coachella Valley. Locally, Poe was a featured artist at Cathedral City’s inaugural Festival of the Arts this past March and was the featured artist at the Cathedral City Public Arts Commission’s Quarterly Art Exhibit at the Cathedral City Public Library in November 2025.
Where Art Lives
Both artists exemplify why Cathedral City is known as a place where art lives — where collectors can meet creators directly, see work in progress, and purchase pieces with a personal story behind them. Tomorrow, Friday, April 24th, marks The Perez Art District’s 4th Friday Art Walk from 4:00 to 7:00 PM — a perfect opportunity to visit Emeline at Studio H27 and explore the studios of more than 50 artists along Perez Road.
