City Council Votes to Authorize Cathedral City’s Century Park Renovation Project

The City Council voted to approve the authorization of documents required for the City Manager to execute the Century Park Renovation Project on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2022. The overall cost of the project is $301,482.69.

Century Park, a 5-acre park which opened in 1990, is located in the northeastern portion of Cathedral City south of Interstate 10, along the eastern edge at the intersection of Century Park Drive and DaVall Drive, one mile north of Ramon Road. In spring 2022, the tot lot play structure slide was vandalized beyond repair and needed to be replaced. An evaluation of the other components that make up the tot lot play equipment also determined that the other components of the play equipment needed to be replaced.

The Century Park Renovation Project includes:

  • Replacement of the tot lot play equipment: April/May 2023.
  • Replacement of the soft surfacing surrounding the play equipment. The soft surfacing is made from 100% recycled California tires.
  • Installation of a new shade structure over the play equipment.
  • All picnic benches and tables will be replaced with new. The picnic benches and tables are made from 100% recycled plastic.
  • All BBQ Grills will also be replaced.
  • The existing shade structure over the picnic areas will be replaced.

The proposed picnic tables and benches are made from recycled material and are the same type of tables and benches currently located at Panorama Park.

“The City of Cathedral City continues to be a leader when it comes to environmental and sustainable programs by purchasing products made from recycled materials,” said Deanna Pressgrove, Environmental Conservation & Public Works Manager. “Century Park is another example of this and we’re excited for residents to experience the renovations and new amenities.”

The renovation project will begin this October with the shade structure roofs, tables, benches, and grills. Renovation of the tot lot play equipment, soft surfacing, and installation of a new shade structure will begin April 2023.
