City Hall Lights Set to “Pink” for National Mammography Day and National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In recognizing October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Friday, October 18th is National Mammography Day, the lights of City Hall will be illuminating in pink colors starting on Friday, October 18 and all weekend long. According to BreastCancer.org, about 1 in 8 U.S. women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. It is estimated that 268,600 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in U.S. women. Although rates of breast cancer have been decreasing since 2000, many theories believe that it is due to the reduce use of hormone replacement therapy as well as treatment advances, earlier detection through screening, and increased awareness.

The City of Cathedral City recognizes the importance of breast cancer awareness and hopes that having our City Hall illuminating in the color of pink all weekend long sparks conversation and action.
