City of Cathedral City Recaps Success of CDBG COVID-19 Small Business Grant Assistance Program

Economic Development Director Dr. Stone James presented a recap of small businesses assisted through the CDBG COVID-19 Small Business Grant Assistance Program. The presentation took place at the City Council meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022.

The City of Council of Cathedral saw the impact COVID-19 was having on the business community and acted in late 2020 and 2021 to stand up a grant program using federal community development block grant (CDBG) funds to assist the City’s hardest hit businesses.

Through the program, approximately $137,008 was disbursed. This included 13 businesses that met all program requirements, all of which have been completely funded. This program is closed and all remaining CDBG funds have been reallocated to other programs.

“While I’m hopeful we won’t have to go through something like this again, I’m proud of the action our City Council took to help our small businesses struggling during the pandemic,” James said. “Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy and we’re thankful these federal funds were able to help these business owners adapt and get back on track.”
