City of Cathedral City Unveils Street Sign Topper Honoring Community Champions Diane Gill and Jane Rasco

The City of Cathedral City officially revealed the Diane Gill & Jane Rasco Way Street Sign Topper this morning, celebrating three decades of extraordinary community service by two beloved residents.

At 9 AM on May 29, 2025, community members gathered at the corner of Channel Drive and Valley Vista Drive to witness the official unveiling of the City of Cathedral City’s newest Street Sign Topper. The ceremony was emceed by Ryan Hunt, Communications & Events Manager. Mayor Nancy Ross and the entire City Council, including Mayor Pro Tem Raymond Gregory and Councilmembers Rita Lamb, Mark Carnevale, and Ernesto Gutierrez, spoke at the ceremony about Diane and Jane’s extraordinary contributions to the community. The honorary signage pays tribute to Diane Gill and Jane Rasco, whose combined 30+ years of volunteer work touched countless lives throughout the desert community.

The ceremony marks a poignant milestone, as both Diane and Jane had passed away before today’s celebration. The timing holds special significance as today would have been Jane’s 90th birthday, making the tribute even more meaningful for family, friends, and community members gathered to honor their memory.

A Legacy of Service

Diane and Jane’s community involvement spanned numerous local organizations, including the Cathedral City food bank, CC Senior Center, CC Boys & Girls Club, and various pet rescue organizations. Their passion for activism became legendary in the community, with the pair consistently fundraising for charities and causes close to their hearts.

“They were extremely proud and happy for the community they helped shape,” noted city officials, emphasizing how the couple’s dedication extended far beyond any single cause or organization.

Celebration of Life Follows Street Sign Topper Unveiling

Following the street unveiling ceremony, the community gathered at the Cathedral City Senior Center for a celebration of life honoring both women. Councilmember Rita Lamb gave the eulogy, sharing heartfelt memories and reflections on their lasting impact on the community.

In a touching gesture, a third Street Sign Topper was specially created and presented to the family by Councilmember Lamb as a keepsake, ensuring that their loved ones would have a permanent reminder of this municipal honor.

Though both Diane and Jane had passed away before today’s ceremony, their spirit was alive and well throughout the celebration, evident in the stories shared and the community they helped build. Following a petition from local citizens, the City Council unanimously agreed to honor Diane and Jane with this Street Sign Topper, recognizing their extraordinary contributions to the Cathedral City Cove neighborhood and the broader community.

Community Celebration

Today’s ceremony brought together residents who have been touched by Diane and Jane’s generosity over the years. The gathering served not only as an official unveiling but as a moment for the community to reflect on the lasting mark these two women left on the City of Cathedral City.

The significance of the day was heightened by the fact that it would have been Jane’s 90th birthday, adding a layer of remembrance and celebration to an already meaningful occasion. While both women had passed away before the ceremony, their presence was felt throughout the day’s events in the Cathedral City Cove neighborhood they called home.

The new Street Sign Topper will serve as a permanent reminder of how individual dedication to community service can create ripple effects that last for generations. As residents and visitors pass by the intersection, they’ll be reminded of Diane and Jane’s example of civic engagement and neighborly care.
