The City of Cathedral City’s Public Works Department is alerting residents, business owners, and commuters to upcoming pedestrian safety improvements at the intersection of 30th Avenue and San Eljay Avenue, running Wednesday, July 22 through Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
Onyx Paving Company, Inc. will be constructing the improvements as part of the HSIP Cycle 11D Pedestrian Crossing Upgrades project, near James Workman Middle School.
When and Where
Project Dates: Wednesday, July 22 – Tuesday, July 28, 2026
Work Hours: 6:00 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays)
Location: Intersection of 30th Avenue and San Eljay Avenue
What’s Being Installed
The project will bring a full package of pedestrian safety improvements to the intersection, including LED safety lighting, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) curb ramps and curb bulb-outs, updated pavement markings, advanced warning signs, and an asphalt grind and overlay of the intersection.
What Drivers Can Expect
Drivers should expect intermittent lane closures and traffic delays throughout the project. Temporary traffic control measures will be in place. Please reduce speed in the Cone Zone, watch for workers and equipment, and consider alternate routes when possible.
A Safer Intersection Ahead
This project is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to pedestrian safety and accessible, walkable streets. Once complete, the intersection of 30th Avenue and San Eljay Avenue will offer safer, more visible, and ADA-compliant crossings for everyone in the neighborhood, including students walking to and from James Workman Middle School.
