Eisenhower Health has partnered with the Cathedral City Senior Center to open the Cathedral City Coping Education and Resources Pop-Up Center throughout the month of October for residents impacted by Tropical Storm Hilary. The Senior Center is located at 37171 W Buddy Rogers Ave, Cathedral City, CA 92234, and the Pop-Up Center opens this Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This will continue Oct. 14, Oct. 21, and Oct. 28.
The Pop-Up Center, led by NP Specialist Maria Aleth Mangosing Ignacio, is designed to support the victims of Tropical Storm Hilary in Cathedral City by providing education and resources to community members coping with anxiety, depression, and other issues related to the devastation.
Due to unprecedented rainfall and flooding of local roadways, City Manager Charles McClendon declared a local emergency due to the critically dangerous impacts of Tropical Storm Hilary. The City Council of Cathedral City approved and ratified the emergency order at the regular meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2023.
On Sept. 14, 2023, Governor Gavin Newsom sent a request to President Biden for a major disaster declaration for the State of California and additional hazard mitigation statewide. On Sept. 19, 2023, a bipartisan delegation of California leaders sent President Biden a letter urging the President to approve a FEMA major disaster declaration for the areas impacted by Tropical Storm Hilary. The City Council and a delegation of local business leaders also sent letters advocating for the President to approve the Federal disaster declaration.
