Los Angeles Times Story about a Cathedral City Family’s Battle with COVID-19

Every business day, more COVID-19 data is released on the number of positive cases and the number of deaths. These numbers represent real family members including those living in Cathedral City. The following LA Times story tells about the Macias family’s battle with COVID-19 here in Cathedral City.

Today, Cathedral City reported 227 additional COVID-19 positive cases and 1 new death in the LAST 24 hours!

3,450 Cathedral City residents have contracted the coronavirus and 45 souls have passed since March. More than 1,200 active cases are in the community right now, the worst ever since the pandemic started.

Now is not the time to let your guard down as our hospital ICU beds are at zero capacity. All of us can play a role in reducing the strain on our health care system and our frontline medical workers by practicing these steps:

  • Wear a face mask when around others outside of your immediate household, even around extended family members
  • If meeting others outside of your immediate household, try to meet outdoors.
  • Social distance at least 6 feet away from others outside of your immediate household
  • Limit your shopping in person to as few times each week as possible and avoid extended time inside a retail store, such as a grocery store.
  • Wash your hands often throughout the day and especially before eating and drinking
  • Disinfect often touched items like a smartphone that also touches your face
