Progress Continues on Cathedral City’s Commitment to Reduce Greenhouse Gases

Crews have been working over the past few weeks installing a new solar panel system that will produce an additional 875,000 kilowatts of electricity from a renewable source, the sun.

Today, solar panels are being installed on large metal structures that will eventually provide Cathedral City’s Civic Center complex with nearly 75% of its annual electrical needs thereby further reducing the City’s carbon footprint. It is our way of preventing the release of additional greenhouse gases that lead to climate change while providing covered parking for visitors and employees at the same time.

As construction continues over the next week or so, you may park along Avenida Lalo Guerrero or in the City’s parking garage for free. As the temperatures rise, covered parking in the City garage is a much cooler option. Plus, if you have a plug-in electric or hybrid vehicle, you can charge your automobile for free while you shop, dine, stay and play.
