Tejano Music Fest Enjoyed by a Sold-Out Crowd

The third annual Tejano Music Fest, presented by Libra crafted by HOTN, showcased Tejano and Grammy Award winning bands to the delight of a sold-out crowd this past Saturday, October 12th at Big League Dreams’ Sports Pavilion in Cathedral City. Pictured is Mayor Mark Carnevale and the entire City Council welcoming the crowd followed by an amazing singing of the National Anthem by Tejano Rising Star Karlos Saucedo.

Throughout the night, the attendees enjoyed the music, culture, food and beverages from Tejanos who have brought their art that originates from south, central, and west Texas, and now call California home. Tejano music brings together various forms of folk and popular music originating among the Mexican-American, German, Czech populations that settled in what we call Texas today. It has the essence of both English and Spanish lyrics and a mix of pop, country and polka music. One of the genre’s major cross-over artists was the late “Selena” who was nicknamed, “The Queen of Tejano.” Additionally, the late Lalo Guerrero, “Father of Chicano Music” and former resident of Cathedral City, was inducted into the Tejano Music Hall of Fame in 1992.

Performing were Tejano and Grammy Award winning bands including Los 2G’s with Ruben Garza and Hector Gonzalez, Grupo Atrapado, and Tejano Highway 281 – all coming to California from Texas. Additionally, the local Tejano favorite band, Grupo Uniko, kicked-off the music festival.
