Tejano Music Festival Adds More Reserved Tables – On Sale Now

Due to overwhelming demand, the initial 32 reserved tables for the September 16th Tejano Music Festival presented by Volkswagen of Cathedral City have been sold out!

The planning committee met last night to expand the number of reserved tables by adding 18 more tables for a total of 50 reserved tables. Several of those tables have already been sold this morning, leaving a limited number of tables left to be sold nearly two months in advance of the inaugural event.

You may wonder why there is such demand for a Tejano Music Festival in Cathedral City. First, Tejano music brings together various forms of folk and popular music originating among the Mexican-American populations of Central and Southern Texas. It has the essence of both English and Spanish lyrics and a mix of pop, country and polka music (its German influence). One of the genre’s major cross-over artists was the late “Selena” who was nicknamed, “The Queen of Tejano.” Second and most importantly, a large influx of Tejanos moved from south, central and west Texas to California in the 1960s and 1970s to work on the farms here in the Coachella Valley and California’s Central Valley. These families settled in California and have become part of our diverse community.

Besides the music and dance, attendees will have an opportunity to view Latino art in the adjacent Cathedral City Cultural Art Museum, enjoy Tejano-inspired food and beverages, and shop from local merchandisers. Kids will also have an opportunity to play at the Kid Zone featuring fun-filled, family games.

Reserved tables are not necessary as the music festival is a free event being offered by the Cathedral City Public Arts Commission whose mission is to advance performing and visual art in the community. There will also be a limited number of picnic tables and high top tables available on a first-come, first-available basis.

Save the date for September 16th from 5 pm to 10 pm located in front of City Hall, 68-700 Avenida Lalo Guerrero, Cathedral City. If you rather purchase a reserved seat do not hesitate to do so as 50 tables will be the maximum limit and there are only 11 tables left.
