BAYANIHAN DESERT TO HOST FIRST VIRTUAL TOWN HALL ON CORONAVIRUS

Online event will identify issues such as food deserts and racial disparities plus steps to take to mobilize and encourage community care.

Bayanihan Desert will host Building Bayanihan in the Time of Covid-19, a virtual town hall to share information about the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) on Friday, June 12, 2020 from 4pm to 5pm. The event will be live streamed online. Debbie Espinosa (FIND Food Bank CEO and President) and Edwin Ramoran (Human Rights Commissioner, City of Palm Springs) will present information and answer questions during the event, which will be moderated by Michelle Castillo (Founder, Wyld Womxn and Lola’s Kusina).

“This will be the first of a series of town halls that will bring together experts and community leaders ‘virtually’ to provide accurate and current information about the virus and its effect on the desert community – especially communities of color,” said Ramoran. “Holding the town hall online allows people to participate and be informed while helping to avoid further spread of the virus.”

Subsequent town halls are planned to address topics such as community health, class disparities, the gig economy and creative community, and will include panels of healthcare professionals, frontline workers, small business owners, and community leaders.

The first town hall will be held in observance of Philippine Independence Day and will be broadcast on Facebook Live on the Bayanihan Desert Facebook page. For more event information, visit Facebook.com/BayanihanDesert.
