Cathedral City Mayor Rita Lamb Sponsors Annual AMVETS Post 66 Memorial Day Awards Luncheon

Cathedral City Mayor Rita Lamb and Palm Springs City Council Member Ron deHarte are two of the main sponsors of the 17th annual Memorial Day Awards Luncheon on May 29, 2023. This year the luncheon will be held at Cimarron Golf Resort in Cathedral City at 12 Noon.

The luncheon is being hosted by Veterans For Peace (VFP) and American Veterans (AMVETS) Post 66. The luncheon cost is $28 per person. VFP and AMVETS are two local not-for-profit veteran service organizations.

Five Holocaust survivors will be honored at this year’s event. Also, KGAY Radio Station as the Business of the Year. Wendy Allaire, daughter of late Medal of Honor winner Marine Corps Colonel Mitchel Paige is receiving an award for outstanding service. Army veteran Donald Beck is receiving the Silver Helmet Award. Palm Springs City Council Member Christy Holstege is being honored as the Elected Official of the Year.

Darin Schermer, an administrative assistant to Riverside County Supervisor Manuel Perez is receiving the Friend of the Veteran Award. And Sergio Carrillo of Los Angeles is being honored for his reporting on the Lily March in Wilmington, California for LGBTQ civil rights that took place before the famous Stonewall Inn protests in New York City that spurned the LGBTQ civil rights movement.
