City Council of Cathedral City Renames Two Streets in Honor of Local High School Students

Cathedral City Mayor Pro Tem Nancy Ross and Councilmembers Raymond Gregory, Ernesto Gutierrez and Rita Lamb, unveiled two new street signs on Thursday, May 30, 2024, to honor two high school students from Cathedral City for their academic excellence.

The Annual Student Street Naming Ceremonies recognized Ms. Lota Uyanwune of Cathedral City High School and Mr. Michael Bray of Mt. San Jacinto High School by renaming the street adjacent to their schools for one year.

Lota Uyanwune

Lota Uyanwune is a current senior and newly awarded Golden Lion at Cathedral City High School. Throughout her four years at CCHS, she’s been involved in HEAL (Cathedral City’s health academy), ASB (serving as executive vice president), HOSA-Future Health Professionals (serving as president), the Black Student Union (serving as treasurer), the varsity tennis team (serving as team captain), and the track team. She also served as CCHS’s student board member and volunteered with numerous organizations, such as blood banks, health clinics, and more. Not only does she have stellar extracurriculars, but she has also excelled academically, earning a 4.62 GPA, and has received numerous accolades around CCHS, Coachella Valley, the state of California, and the country. Lota will attend UCLA in the fall, majoring in psychology or psychobiology, on a pre-med track, with the goal of becoming an OB/GYN.

Michael Bray

Michael Bray is Mt. San Jacinto High Schools choice to receive the honor of Most Outstanding Graduate. Michael was a shy, somewhat withdrawn student when he came to MSJ; he is now a student who is comfortable interacting with staff and students alike. Michael is a model student, earning great grades, involving himself in clubs and academic programs, and acting as a responsible citizen. Though Michael came to us severely behind in credits, he is graduating a full year early at the end of his junior year!
