Cathedral City drivers should prepare for significant traffic impacts starting Monday, June 16, 2025, as construction begins on critical infrastructure improvements at the Cathedral Cove Center area.
Construction Details
Beginning Monday, June 16th and continuing through Friday, July 11th, eastbound traffic on East Palm Canyon Drive will be reduced to a single lane from Cathedral Canyon Drive to just east of Date Palm Drive. The construction project involves building two outside lanes from Van Fleet Road to Date Palm Drive.
Traffic Impact
The five-week construction period will create substantial delays for eastbound commuters traveling through this busy commercial corridor on East Palm Canyon Drive. The Cathedral Cove center area serves as a major retail and dining destination, making this a heavily trafficked route during peak hours.
Drivers are encouraged to:
- Allow extra travel time for eastbound trips
- Consider alternate routes when possible
- Exercise patience and caution in the construction zone
- Follow all posted speed limits and traffic control signs
Safety Reminders
Cathedral City officials emphasize the importance of driver vigilance during construction activities. Motorists should maintain safe following distances, reduce speeds in work zones, and watch for construction workers and equipment.
The project represents a significant infrastructure investment that will improve traffic flow and safety in the Cathedral Cove area once completed.
