Councilmember Carnevale Showcases the Cathedral City Nighttime Cooling Center

Watch the following video as Councilmember Mark Carnevale interviews Coachella Valley Rescue Mission’s Mark McGowan about the Cathedral City Nighttime Cooling Center located at the Elk’s Lodge in Cathedral City.  This facility provides those facing homelessness with a refuge from the summer heat and a safe space to shower, get nourished, and sleep. The cooling center has taken all the precautions to provide these services during the COVID-19 pandemic.  What some surrounding businesses thought would be a detriment has become a blessing to them as CVRM has managed this facility brilliantly.

You will also learn about the social services that CVRM offers through the nighttime cooling center and how at least eight clients have made tremendous progress on their road to recovery and out of the cycle of homelessness.  This is a video that inspires rather than dampens the spirit.

The Elks Lodge, located at 67491 E. Palm Canyon Drive, shares their space for the cooling center between 4:00 pm and 7:00 am every day.  Check-in occurs at 4:00 pm and you must be in line as close to 4:00 pm as possible.  The first 35 people will be welcomed.  For more information about this Nighttime Cooling Center in Cathedral City, contact Mark at CVRM by dialing (760) 347-3512.
