Nine Cities Workplace Wellness Challenge 2016 – Sign Up Now

Cathedral City has been invited (both employees and the entire community) to participate in the Workplace Wellness Challenge 2016 taking place here in the Coachella Valley. You may have heard about one aspect of the Challenge—the Nine Weekly Saturday Walks scheduled between Aug 20 and Oct 15, in preparation for the Oct 22 Tram Road Challenge and Desert AIDS Walk. The Challenge is organized by United Way of the Desert. (You can go to www.unitedwayofthedesert.org and the top of the opening page is a link to more information about the 9 Walks.)

WorkplaceWellness - CC2

The Walk in Cathedral City takes place on Saturday, August 27, 7 am, Dennis Keat Soccer Park, 69-400 30th Ave, Cathedral City.

How It Works

You can participate on Team Cathedral City by signing up to track your Walks, steps and other physical activity, nutrition, and more and EARN POINTS for the team! Sync with your fitness device (Fitbit, Garman, Apple Watch, etc.) or track online. Here’s what to do… Log on to wellable.co/UWChallenge. (Note: Type .co, not .com) Read about it, sign up with your team (choose City of Cathedral City from the drop-down) and create an account. You will be prompted to sync with your fitness device, if you choose. I just signed up, and it’s easy (believe me!). Our team was already in second place on the Leaderboard (CV Water District is #1…) based on sign-ups alone, and the Leaderboard will restart August 20 with the start of the Challenge. (You can see individual and Team stats on the Leaderboard.)

Social/Virtual Mini-Challenges

Let’s make this a group effort to get or to stay healthy through coordinated walks, hikes, workouts, and/or any other exercise activity! Join the “Workplace Wellness Challenge – Cathedral City” group on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1572007553094184/) and you can invite others to join you by simply posting your activity, where it is, what time, and if any costs are involved. The group can read it and decide to participate or not. You can also post motivational activities like, “I just walked 2 miles today”. Post a challenge, “I challenge Chris Parman to walk 2 miles today.” You can also create Virtual activities, such as, “Let’s walk our dogs at 7 pm”, then everyone in the group can walk their dogs in their own neighborhoods at 7 pm and post pictures of walking our pooches.

Let’s have some fun with this AND do ourselves a favor towards our own personal wellness. Get a FREE T-SHIRT for signing up with Team Cathedral City!! (Shirts should be available by the Cathedral City Walk on August 27th.)
