The Legendary “Los 2 G’s” to Play at the 3rd Annual Tejano Music Fest in Cathedral City

Sometimes bad news turns into FANTASTIC news.  We recently learned that J.R. Gomez y Los Conjunto Bandits had to unexpectedly withdraw from the line-up at the 3rd Annual Tejano Music Fest; however, Tejano Powerhouse Entertainment replaced them with the Tejano/Conjunto legends, “Los 2 G’s” featuring Ruben Garza and Hector Gonzalez.  These two gentlemen have the following list of awards:

Tejano Music Award (multiple times)

Grammy nomination

Tejano Music Hall of Fame

Conjunto Music Hall of Fame

STCA Lifetime Achievement Award

STCA Bajo Sexto Player of the Year

2017 Brownsville Music Legacy Award

Ruben Garza, famed lead vocalist and bajo sexto player for both Ruben Vela y Su Conjunto and Los Dos Gilbertos, is continuing the tradition and style audiences have loved for over 50 years.  In 2015, after the unexpected passing of his longtime musical partner and friend Gilberto Garcia Sr., Ruben formed Ruben Garza y La Nueva Era.  The band continued the style and sound Ruben has become known for.  The band received several honors: ELSA Award Nomination-Best New Group (2016), Tejano Music Award nominations (2017)-Best New Conjunto Group and Best New Male Artist.

This living legend of conjunto, was recently honored by the Governor of Texas and nominated for 2 Tejano Music Awards. He is also the recipient of the South Texas Conjunto Lifetime Achievement Award, the STCA Bajo player of the year (2017), and inducted into both the Tejano Music Hall of Fame and the Conjunto Music Hall of Fame. Ruben hopes to continue the music his fans have loved for many more years.

Hector Gonzalez is a singer-songwriter and accordion player. The singer/musician is notable for his traditional conjunto music, but he has also experimented with Tejano, Norteño & Gospel and many genres from Latin music. Born in San Benito, Texas, Hector has been playing accordion since age nine, taking influence from Valerio Longoria & Los Dos Gilberto’s conjunto roots.  He stepped in as accordion and second voice for legendary conjunto group Los Dos Gilbertos, at the request of Gilberto Garcia Sr. himself. After the passing of Gilberto Garica Sr., he joined Ruben Garza in forming Ruben Garza y La Nueva Era.  Hector and Ruben parted ways and Hector formed his own group, Hector Gonzalez y Conjunto X2G, receiving a 2018 STCA nomination for accordionist of the year.

In January of 2019 Ruben and Hector reunited, forming Los 2G’s (Garza and Gonzalez).

It is our understanding this will be Los 2 G’s first California appearance.  Tejano Music Fest offers free admission and free parking.  If you would like a reserved table to dance and go back to a reserved seat, go to www.TejanoMusicFest.com and click on VIP Tickets.  VIP Ticket holders also get access to the Stadium Club which allows you to meet and take a photo with all the bands, plus other great benefits.  VIP tables are limited, so don’t delay.
