“The Passages” Art Sculpture Installed at Panorama Park

Last fall, the City Council approved the recommendation of the Cathedral City Public Arts Commission to install a new art sculpture at the northeast corner of Panorama Park, located at the corner of Avenida Maravilla and Peladora Road.  Entitled, “Passages,” the art sculpture created by Steve “Shig” Shigley honors the sacrifices of law enforcement and first responders.  It represents life “passages” that everyone experiences.

This week, crews were able to install the sculpture to a permanent concrete pedestal at Panorama Park adding art to this beautiful, neighborhood park. The sculpture is made of tubular steel.

“Shig” is a self-taught, emerging artist who is best known for his highly regarded Joshua Tree sculptures. An accomplished metal worker/ fabricator whose work ranges from table-top sculpture, metal wall art, custom furniture to large scale public art.  His career includes being accepted to attend the artist in residency program at the Chateau D’ Orquevaux in Paris, France, Second Place award in 2018 Palm Springs Juried Art Show (Bold and Bright), and commissioned to create numerous large scale public sculptures, including what is believed to be the world’s largest freestanding steel Tesseract for the 2018 and 2019 Bombay Beach Biennale.
