Community Update

by Paul Wilson, Fire Chief

“May 19-25, 2019 is National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week”

The emergency medical technicians and paramedics of the Cathedral City Fire Department are cross-trained as professional firefighters. They are the local providers of emergency medical services in the city of Cathedral City.

As a fire department (F.D.) based EMS service, you receive more rapid response, treatment, and transportation since your EMS providers are close-by.

Each fire engine is staffed with three firefighters who are state certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT’s) and/or state certified Paramedics.

Each ambulance is staffed with two firefighters who are state certified Paramedics.

The F.D. ambulances are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment including; oxygen; twelve-lead heart monitors/defibrillators; continuous positive air pressure respiratory therapy devices; intubation equipment; medications to treat a heart attack, stroke or trauma accident; electronic patient care reporting tablets, with blue tooth technology for communication with the hospital; and power gurneys to ease patient loading and unloading from the ambulance.

The firefighters, who are emergency medical technicians and paramedics, are proud to serve the City of Cathedral City residents and visitors.

If you encounter them on an emergency or see them conducting business, please express your appreciation to your Cathedral City firefighters / EMS personnel during National EMS Week.
