I want to give the public an update on the current road construction project on Date Palm and Cathedral Canyon south of the White Water Wash. As the motoring public is aware we are in the moddle of a major road renovation project on Cathedral Canyon south of Perez Road as well as Date Palm Drive South of Perez. The project remains on schedule with one improved north and south lane open to traffic on both roads.
As of today the entire milling process has been completed, as well as the installation of new ADA accessible handicap ramps. This project is using a new method of recycling the road. Following the milling and removal of the asphalt surface a full depth layer of sub base has been excavated, mixed with concrete and reapplied. This process eliminated the need to remove the subbase to a disposal site and to truck in new classified base material. This not only reused the existing subbase but also eliminated the truck traffic required to transport material thus reducing the diesel engine emissions into the environment. The resulting concrete sub base exceeds the compaction requirements. This is another example of the City of Cathedral City using state of the art technology to not only preserve materials through recycling but to also increase our sustainability and reduce air pollution.
On Monday November 7 the installation of base and cap paving will commence and is scheduled to be completed by the end of the week. This will essentially complete the major asphalt renovation work and commuter traffic will return back to normal. There will be some slight delays to follow for valve and manhole adjustments as well as striping but those will have little impact on traffic flow.
The City has worked diligently to make the construction traffic as smooth as possible and has made a few adjustments during the construction to make travel as expedient as possible.
We do appreciate the patience of the motorists during construction and assure you that your safety as well as the safety of the construction workers is our primary focus.
We realize that we have created some short term inconveniences, but we are confident that the resulting improvement in the road surface will have been worth it.

Thank you for your patience as we strive to move the City Forward.
