Barbara Eberhart Gallery Celebrates Ribbon Cutting, Blossoms in The Perez Art District

Host Conrad Angel Corral recently visited the Barbara Eberhart Gallery, the newest addition to The Perez Art District along Perez Road. Artist and gallery owner Barbara Eberhart welcomed Conrad into her bright new space to talk about her four-decade career, her signature florals, and what drew her to put down roots in Cathedral City’s thriving arts community.

Barbara Eberhart has spent more than 40 years refining a flawlessly blended, near-photorealist oil painting style. She is best known for her sweeping, elegant florals — lush depictions of flowers and plant life that celebrate the natural world and, in her words, aim to bring a moment of stillness and beauty to viewers. Working under the philosophy “Open your heart with art,” she describes painting as a spiritual experience meant to nourish the soul, “painting peace, joy and serenity — one flower at a time.”

Her path to the desert has been a long and storied one. Barbara earned her BFA from California State University, Sacramento, then spent roughly three decades living and working in Hawaii, where she was honored with the State of Hawaii Acquisition Award and saw her work enter the state’s permanent collection. She was also commended by Governor Linda Lingle for her volunteer art programs at the Hawaii State Women’s Penitentiary. After relocating to Santa Barbara in 2014 — where she created public murals and exhibited widely — she ultimately found her way to the Coachella Valley, where the region’s natural beauty now inspires a vibrant new body of desert-flower paintings.

Cathedral City residents may already recognize Barbara’s work from beyond her gallery walls. She was one of the local artists who transformed park benches into works of art for the Public Arts Commission’s Ocotillo Park bench-painting project, and her work has appeared at the City’s Festival of the Arts.

The Barbara Eberhart Gallery celebrated its ribbon cutting on May 6, 2026, joining a wave of new galleries energizing The Perez Art District — often called the “SoHo of the desert” — where more than 40 working studios and galleries invite the public to meet artists, watch them create, and purchase art directly. Visitors can experience the district during its beloved Fourth Friday Art Walks, held 4:00 to 7:00 PM, as well as during regular gallery hours, generally Thursday through Saturday from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Please support the arts in Cathedral City. Residents can watch new episodes of “The Art of Cathedral City” on the City’s Facebook page, Instagram account and YouTube channel, or watch CCTV (our government cable channel) on Spectrum Cable Channel 17.
