Cathedral City Council Member Rita Lamb will share her thoughts on the importance of Memorial Day at the 19th annual Memorial Day Awards Luncheon. Council Member Lamb will also welcome and introduce guest speaker Ms. Xochita Murillo, Deputy Secretary for Minority Veterans for the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CDVA) in Sacramento, California.
Council Member Lamb was first elected to the City Council in 2019 in a special election. She was re-elected again in 2020 and 2024. Last year she served as Mayor of Cathedral City. She is a former elementary school principal. She has sponsored many veteran events and received the “Friend of the Veteran Award” from American Veterans (AMVETS) Post 66 in Palm Springs.
The luncheon will be held on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, 2025 from 12 Noon to 2:00 PM at Cimarron Golf Resort, 67603 30th Avenue in Cathedral City. Awards will be presented to community leaders, and musical entertainment will be provided.
Four local residents who are Holocaust survivors will receive awards and share their life stories. The news media is invited to attend the luncheon and interview these courageous heroes. The survivors are Goldie Jacoby, Ruth Lindeman, Susan Juhasz, and Rickie Taras.
The luncheon is being sponsored by American Veterans (AMVETS) Post 66 and Jon Castro Chapter 19 of Veterans For Peace (VFP). AMVETS dedicated the California LGBTQ Veterans Memorial in Cathedral City. VFP has dedicated several Peace Poles in the valley, including the pole outside of Cathedral City Library. Both AMVETS and VFP are not-for-profit veteran service organizations.
The price is $33 and reservations can be made by calling Tom Swann Hernandez at (760) 324-5670.
