Cathedral City Storytime Features “The Wizard of Oz”

In celebration of Cathedral City’s 40th Anniversary, Councilmember Rita Lamb reads the book, “The Wizard of Oz” retold by Carol Ottolenghi and illustrated by Jim Talbot.  This story portrays a little girl named Dorothy who goes on a magical journey after her Kansas farm is struck by a tornado.  What she discovers is that family is what is most important in life and there is no place like home.

 

It is important for parents to read to young children as it develops their own reading skills and comprehension.  You can use this video tool and let a former school teacher and principal read for one of those reading to children occasions.

 

At the end of the video, Councilmember Lamb invites Cathedral City residents to the City’s 40th Anniversary celebration as part of the Hot Air Balloon Festival on Saturday, November 20, 2021 from 11 am to 9 pm in Downtown Cathedral City.  Activities include:

1:00 pm – 3:00 pm          City Birthday Cookies and Ice Cream for up to 2,000 guests

3:00 pm                               Free Wizard of Oz movie at Mary Pickford Theatre

5:00 pm                               Mariachi Band – (Festival Lawn)

5:30 pm                               City Council Karaoke (Festival Lawn)

6:00 pm                               40th Anniversary Hot Air Balloon Glow to Music

7:00 pm                               Mayor’s Welcome, City Presentations, Time Capsule

7:15 pm – 8:45 pm          40th Anniversary Concert featuring “Giselle Woo & the Night Owls”
