City of Cathedral City Seeks Applicants for District 3 City Council Vacancy

The Cathedral City City Council approved a process at its Dec. 10, 2025, regular meeting to fill the District 3 seat left vacant by the passing of Councilmember Mark Carnevale on Nov. 16, 2025.

Residents interested in serving on the City Council are invited to submit a letter of interest by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025. Letters may be submitted by email, mail, or in person to the City Clerk’s Office:

A special City Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. to interview applicants and appoint a new Councilmember to represent District 3.

To be eligible, applicants must be registered voters and residents of District 3. To verify your district, visit cathedralcity.gov/government/electoral-districts.

The appointed Councilmember will serve the remainder of Councilmember Carnevale’s term, which expires in November 2026.

Councilmember Carnevale was first elected in 2014 and served the community with distinction for more than a decade, including serving as Mayor twice. A Celebration of Life service honoring his legacy will be held on Monday, December 15, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Mary Pickford Theatre.
