With a near perfect weather day and two years since the last Halloween event, more than 3,500 people attended the 2021 Halloween Spooktacular this past Sunday in Downtown Cathedral City. Thanks to our title sponsor, Crockett Law Group, the three-hour event offered trick or treats for kids, family games, public safety displays by our police and fire departments, wonderful street tacos and burritos by VIP Catering, La Michoacana ice cream, performances by the Cathedral City High School Ballet Folklorico, recyclable Halloween shopping bags, and a blood drive by Lifestream Blood Bank. The attendance this year was record breaking. However, due to an overwhelming attendance, we went through more 45,000 pieces of candy in an hour and half. Talks are already in the works to dramatically increase the amount of candy available for Trick or Treats in 2022.
During the Costume Contest for Kids, six lucky winners went home with brand new bikes, as the costumes this year were outstanding. One winner made her costume from palm tree fronds that she got from her backyard and created the outfit in about eight hours with her mom. Special Events thanks our costume contest judges who had a difficult time selecting the top two each hour. They included Mayor Raymond Gregory, Mayor Pro Tem Ernesto Gutierrez, Councilmember Rita Lamb, City Manager Charlie McClendon, Fire Chief John Muhr and his wife Amy, Police Chief George Crum, and Parks and Community Events Commissioners Gary Marshall and Chip Yarborough.
