Have you heard about SunRide? This on-demand rideshare service is the newest transportation option offered by SunLine Transit Agency. Rides are booked using an app within six different geo-fenced zones in the Coachella Valley, and it is now available here in Cathedral City.
SunRide connects riders to SunLine’s fixed route network or a number of other points of interest within the same zone – from shopping centers and medical facilities to local parks, schools and businesses.
Riders use this service with a smartphone app, which will call for a SunRide vehicle (a small neighborhood-friendly van) to pick them up at a destination within the designated zones and/or bus stops.
Here’s how it works:
- Book your ride using the SunRide app (which can be downloaded in your App Store) or calling Customer Service
- The app will identify the ‘virtual stop’ nearest you and that is where you will meet your driver
- Once you enter the SunRide vehicle, your driver will take you to the destination you booked within the app
The cost to ride is only $3 per person, per trip. Book a ride within 15 minutes or schedule a ride up to seven days in advance. All vehicles are ADA-accessible.
SunRide is available Monday-Friday 5:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m.
